The morning light reflecting off of the Skinner Macaroni building across the street and coming in through my windows sometime between six and seven am. The ability to run downstairs to Gourmet Cubby's and get nearly any forgotten ingredient in whatever I'm making. The ability to walk over to La Buvette for really great wine, early morning coffee & atmosphere, or just a feta and fava bean salad. Sunday mornings when downtown is deserted. Saturday mornings in the summer when I can walk two blocks to the farmer's market and get all the fresh vegetables I need until the next farmer's market on Wednesday, the smaller of the two. The seemingly infinite ways I can walk to work through the old market, or across side streets and alleys. Big old brick buildings. People watching. The city in the rain. Walking home without a jacket when it's just spitting. The ability to stumble home from the bar and not drive drunk. The proximity of Heartland of America Park. The best wheatgrass shots in the city at Jane's. Walking over to M's Pub or O'Connor's for a pub meal. Irish coffee on Sunday night at Mr. Toad's.
Things I Look Forward To About My House
Equity. The fact I have a roommate frees up money for other things, like paying debt and travelling. The fact my roommate has a really cool dog. The fact my roommate is into design, art, and working with Sharecrop. My front porch. [So awesome] The fact my bedroom has an eastern exposure, which bodes well for morning light. My backyard has plenty of space for a garden. I will have a garage for my car, and so will my roommate. I can stumble home from the bar. The walk to Jane's other healthfood store from my house is only a block farther than to her downtown store from my apartment. Big old neighborhood streets where I can ride my bike. Neighbors dropping by. Proximity to my friends in Dundee and off Military. Tapas Bar. New Music Venues going into Benson. Leo's Diner, which is walking distance, and which has excellent breakfast. Being centrally located, since I will have to drive most places now. Curbside recycling. A gas range. The ability to throw legendary dinner parties once again. Walking the dog. More room for friends to visit & stay over. Being able to paint the walls, decorate, and generally improve the house. The space for a studio, for an atelier, a workspace. A garage for building or souping-up things: furniture, bikes, vans [A-Team style] I doubt I'll get panhandled as much. There are several parks in spitting distance of Benson. I can always drive downtown, and I know where to park.
I will miss your apartment also. I used to fly in quick from washington
and watch you through your window naked in the rain while you were oblivious
to my intrusion... But Alas... All things come to an end.
Your attourney General.
